Been in the background helping out and porting up the code to FurEauction.
This is one of the odd things where it's not the code itself falling over itself going to the new version but the DB. The fixes for the database isn't hard itself it's just testing all the cases. What's nice is that I have been adding extra catches and traps so it's easier to maintain.
I'm more or less have the code sitting in waiting to launch for last month doing tests off and on and well waiting for a down town. I have to spend about an hour or so to to move and reset up the site.
So nice to see it on new platform so I can work hard core on it again :) Current Mood: accomplished

Up and coming
For the last couple months I have been working with a few other people to relaunch FurEauction
It is now time to be a little more public about it.
The reasons why FurEauction was created is the same reasons as before. From a &rquo;does it work“ standard the site works pretty well.
What I am looking at this point is comments. Good or bad.
My concerns are
A) General auction experience. IS the forms too complex for the users. Does it need to be made into two pages. Or have an "extended" page after auction.
B) Adult entry (How the adult entry comes off).
C) Feature set
D) English - The help to the text on the screen is written in Yotease. Hard to understand but mostly accurate.
On the dock is the ability to add selections for categories. LIke is this picture a dog, cat etc. Does it have male, female. And full filtering/search capabilities. The problem with this feature is how many items you need. I also do not want an initial "block everything" mode since this would kill the front page.
Anyways ideas and thoughts please feel free to post.
Didn't know there was a spam message here took me a while to delete it. I wonder why live journal made it hard to find where to delete it......

Just a ping
While the site never was down.... It just I didn't have the time to put the energy into the site like I could before.
Work is back on the site. I am working on porting the code to a new version of the language and database. To give me more flexibility and power. Long term I will need people help. Either to add features or to hide features.
Improve UI and such. The other people who work on the project are working on a marketing plan and working how they want to position it.
To be honest the reason why it exist are still there. I will be reinvigorating it in the next few weeks.
Thanks for the patience and I will be waiting to hear back from you.

I bring wares
I'm clearing out my art archives going right back to 2004 so expect to see a lot of things on FurEauction over the next few weeks.
I can't draw as much lately since I've injured my wrist (poot!) but I'm off to the Doctors tomorrow to get it looked at/fixed.
Oh, and I do the art thing full-time, so any and all bids and sales are very welcome as it helps pay the bills :)
p.s. Furbid isn't as great as people think ;)

Things for sale on FurEAuction. Honestly!
Hi y'all! I just wanted to jump in and let you cats know that, due to an impending move, I'll be selling off a good chunk of my Furry collection. I need to get rid of some things, and help raise money to move from my terrible little shack in the woods to, with luck, another terrible little shack in the woods. I have a thing for them.
Anyway, I’ll be selling all kindsa stuff, mostly old and very obscure, to better known stuff like Omaha The Cat Dancer, Associated Student Bodies, Critters, Albedo, Hepcats, Shanda, Furrlough, Genus, Usagi Yojimbo, Quack, etc. Not to mention issues of the magazines Anthropomorphine and Antrholations, and Circles merch. I used to work at a comic store, so I have all sorts of cool stuff. I may trade some things for certain issues of Critters, or some things by Mike Kazaleh (my all-time comic hero), despite how counter-productive that is.
I should probably also mention that I'd like to trade that issue of Associated Student Bodies #4 for a copy of #2, provided you get to me before someone bids.
So I'm here to drum up some attention, since the site seems to be deader’n Noah’s mailman right now. I hope you cats don’t mind me posting this. It’s just, well, that I’m a charitable person, and I knew you’d want to get some of these things. So it was my duty, really, to tell you about them. Right? That sounds better, doesn’t it. And it’s true; you cats want my books. You want them more than your health. But I can’t spend your health, so bring your money over to FurEAuction.com
Thanks for reading this, and be Zorch. Hope to see you around.

State Of FurEauction - 5 years old
It's been 5 years since FurEauction went live. Over this time it has changed/morphed/improved over time. It's been a lot of blood sweat and tears.
The reason why it was built still hasn't gone away, in fact it may even be stronger. So I still see this being up for a long... long... time.
And it's time to write what is planned in the short term 6 months.
Right now I have a job (TM) Which is taking 12-16 hours a day. That really SUCKS and literally I sometimes think that quitting will be more self fulling than working.
So looking forward short term the auction back end engine works very well. I have no plans to gut or modify the engine. The request "page" should be updated to look much more detail than it is before.
Other than that I will be doing any UI requests from people and update to feature based on a email listing. I will do major changes if people want it. I'm just saying I am not going to go out of my way to "re-engineer" the whole app at this time that would be silly ;).
I personally am back to the "I HATE UI" feature. So getting me to change UI may be easier than some believe ;)
The other thing I want to do with FurEauction is build is stronger partnerships with organizations and people. I think that's the way to be around and grow.
Anyways I'm rambling thanks for listening and see you around. Current Mood: amused

State of the Yote
I thought I would put a quick blurb about FurEauction.
As a programmer -
My current view is I would like to tweak/rework the interface to make it simpler but keep as much functionality as possible. I also would like better text on the screen.
So far i reworked some pages but to be honest I don't like them so I am going to rescrap.
If anyone wants their own hand at any changes on the look feel of the site - feel free to but remember the pages must
- not be a copy style from someone else.
- Work without Java script, active x, flash, etc enabled on the browser
- Fast to load
- Branding must be simple and replaceable. The site is not a billboard for anything BUT the auction being sold. I do not mind putting person's own banner in the auction page as it can be done by rog minotaur. And will take any reasonable requests.
- The site must include self censorship options. That include the warning page if you don't auto login for adult art.
I have a feature request I am mulling on how to do. It's something that I was opposed from the start of the site so the site was made not to support the feature DB wise. Now that I am convince of the value and legality of it in the next few weeks/months I'll work on it to get it going.
Again any additional feature requests are always appreciated and will have a reply.Partnerships and Synergy
I mentioned before i didn't get around to replying to one response.
I am looking at other partnership and synergy relationships. I am open for talks and discussion either way. Could it mean being brought into another site collective?
Maybe. Could it be just trading links and figuring out how to place links.
We are willing to listen. But you have to remember these points.
1) The site needs to be as open to everyone in the furry fandom.
2) Self censorship is the rule. People need to be able to choose not to see something not the site limits what they see. Of course anything illegal or things that really are what I call Human Spam is not accepted. This is a fandom auction site not a free for all after all but still we need to be able to put stuff that members of the fandom needs.
The reason why this is I can count the many times friends of mine had auctions pulled on site for reasons I couldn't fantom. That is one of the main reason this site is up. I wanted a less political site.
3) The site needs to run on as many browsers as possible.
4) The site needs to have functionality that people will use.
5) Whatever happens this is for the long haul. The site has been running since mid 2001. It's not going down.

The worst thing about the site is the documentation.
I can't explain how much it sucks. It sucks like.... Well LOL
So Wiki seems to be very interesting to do. Put all help in it and boom have it more of a living document so that people will be able to edit.
My thoughts are
1) No wiki try to get people like we have
2) Find another Wiki to spin off. Will have less control but someone else can "run" the wiki which would make me happy.
3) Roll our own/find one. Use light weight wiki that does a simple wiki features (history etc). Don't need a heavy duty one don't want to replace other just want a way for people to update documentation.

FurEauction more or less looking into partnerships
During my birthday I look back things in my life and how things I want going forward.
I personally believe FurEauction and the code it runs under. I also believe it could be a stronger power in the fandom. I wonder if a partnership(s) would help motivate and push the site forward......
Partnerships and relationships are sticky thing.
When FurEauction started up we had a partnership agreement with a site about 4 2/3 years ago. We made the agreement and service agreements. We went and fulfill that part of the bargain. In the end the other side didn't meet fulfillment. And one of the administrator of the site actually became extremely upset with that.
While I tried to get the partnership back together it became a parent at that point it wasn't going to happen. So eventually it just faded away.
I vowed myself never to even think of a new partnership.
The dynamics have change things are different.
I personally am thinking
A) Do we need a partnership(s) in the scene.
B) What level the partnership. Link exchange or even a merger with another power.
C) Who should I even think about to work with and how closely
D) If i partnered with that group/people would that close any doors? Could I partner with someone else later.
these are serious topics. Again I love my code and I believe in the code. I believe in the site too!
So I have my own thoughts but I really am looking towards other peoples opinion on it.
Thanks for listening!

Today someone mailed out a letter asking about policies and stuff. I can tell by the way letters are formatted if they read the site and if they are part of a fandom covered by the site. Of course most those cases will send out the letter and immediately start posting.
As you know this is a free free free free free site. we never even thought of charging people heck no code/db level to do that. This service is the needs of the fandoms.
So I have to come down quick on auctions that don't meet the fandom goals and that potentially will lead to more spam in the future. Not something I like to do and I always feel bad.
But it is done to keep the bandwidth acceptable and not become a spam haven. And well not offend members of the fandom when they are looking for things on auction.
Continuing forward working on some slight bug fixes and trying some style sets off and on.
If you have anything else you want on the site please let me know as always posting here is fine :)
Anyways will continue working.
And PS we are always open for collaboration ideas and partnerships with other sites. If you have any ideas and mentions please tell me. Current Mood: depressed

From all of us that work on FurEauction we hope that you have a happy new year.
Sorry about not being in Live Journal. But things in life been hitting me hard. Few small updates been made to FurEauction most will only effect small users. Mostly in account registration nothing major. I should put a state of yote in my live journal and a short one here.
State of Site.
Site works - site is running been that way for over 4 1/2 years.
- Respond to user feedback and suggestions. This site is for the fandom by members of the fandom. That's the most important thing is take any person's opinion seriously and work with the ideas. Site will continue to evolve and change because of that.
- Work on new relationships. I want to create better brother and sister relationships with other sites.
- Refine interface, work on making the site have a nicer user work flow.
- Reduce overall complexity without removing options (isn't that a contradiction)
- Redo the requests pages - didn't like my beta changes and scrapped them. So going to redo the look and feel of them over time.
- Continue to do security scans every 2 months, I find that makes a better code overall and keep working it out.
- REALLY work on help. Wikipedia type software may be needed to allow users to edit since my skills are programming, security and QA and not help manuals.
- And good suggestions
Anyways keep it real and keep on dreaming :)

Hey long time no post
Long time no post here.
Unsurprisingly real life crisis have been eating up my time. Unemployment can be a bother. And there has been some important work I have been doing for a few other people. It's nutz LOL
the major thing I am working on is a code clean up on the request page. After that I am doing some small remodeling of some of the pages. Nothing ground breaking. I am planning to work on MSG messegning. Something that is hard since I don't have a cell phone.
I'm pretty happy with the overall machine performance. the way optimization has been done with it has fixed a few issues for it. Stress tests really show how great it runs. Again very happy.
Anyways further thoughts and ramblings coming up.
Thanks for your time and please give feed back and ideas. Current Mood: silly

Update this weekend
FurEauction got a code drop based on a person's request for a change on the site I received this weekend. They were hoping to reduce the my auction listing page to have only 7 days worth of information. Instead of what it had before.
The changes they wanted would of reduce flexibility and usability for some users including me. The policy on the site is never take away a feature. So I went with a more flexible solution.
An account based setting has been done to allow users to be able to select how many days back the ... UMM I THINK i called it "My Auction" link (it's called code wise listing page).
The complete information and change is on the site.
Of course now that I did this on my "docket" of things to do in the next 3 years is to separate the registration page information for critical information and more general non critical settings. The user page is too long right now and the organization isn't as "brilliant" as I like. that will need to be addressed sooner than later.
Anyways for those that use that feature hope you like it. I personally use it myself and find the option to be actually useful (since now I can set it even further back for a more interesting history)
